In its capacity of a governmental non-profit-making institution, the M HKA participates at present in the debate about the large-scale institutions for which the Flemish Community at present takes up responsibility. In 2002, the M HKA changed its social role as a non-profit-making institution. The M HKA intends to combine medium-related engagements with insights into visual culture as well as hypotheses about artistic notions with larger socially related questions. Other juxtapositions of notions to which it devotes its attention are international-local, tradition-renewal and research-presentation. In the process, the M HKA prepares its own framework of metaphors in order to describe its outlines. With regard to this, we already work at ‘conversation’, ‘joy’, ‘morality’ and ‘reflection'.
