DAKkan.festival in Muhka
22 Sep 2024, 11:00 - 18:00
An animal-friendly makers’ market on the rooftop, apple harvest, and a literature festival: come to M HKA on Sunday 22 September to experience it all. During this Car-Free Sunday, you can reach the museum by bike, skateboard, or roller skates, as the entire Scheldt quays will be car-free!
On the programme, and all for free:
Market
11:00–16:00 Makers’ Market: Happy Animals ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ Rooftop terrace, 4th floor
During the final weekend of our major exhibition The Lives of Animals, we are inviting local makers with a passion for animals. The rooftop will be transformed into a marketplace where you can browse various animal-themed creations, or enjoy vegan treats with a view of the Scheldt.
13:00–16:00 Children’s Face Painting: Animal Transformation Rooftop terrace, 4th floor
Is the beast within you difficult to contain? Face painting is liberating, especially when it becomes a work of art.
Workshops
13:30–14:30 Workshop: Create an Apple Ornament with Antje Majewski Rooftop terrace, 4th floor
Artist Antje Majewski invites you to celebrate the apple harvest season. Together with her, you will work on a large apple ornament. The cheerful atmosphere will be complemented by musical accompaniment and a free apple treat.
Enjoy a free (vegan) apple ice cream afterwards – while stocks last, olé!
14:30–15:30 Workshop: Come and Brew (Vegan) Cider! Superhost, 6th floor
There are currently 200 apple trees growing on the M HKA rooftop. These trees are part of the Superhost project by artists Antje Majewski and Pawel Freisler. At DAKkan, the Antwerp cider makers from CIDERNATIONS will teach you the ins and outs of brewing. During the workshop, you can taste unique ciders made from centuries-old apple varieties.
Reserve a spot via reservatie@muhka.be – be quick, as places are limited.
11:00–16:00 Workshop: Seed Bombs! Rooftop terrace, 4th floor
Due to climate change, urbanisation, and pollution, the habitats of animals and insects are disappearing. That’s why we’re dedicating a workshop to making our surroundings greener. Leave the seed bombs in your own garden or your neighbour’s, and help create new habitats for all sorts of creatures!
Word
15:00–17:00 Slam Poetry by ZuiderZinnen Rooftop terrace, 4th floor
Talented slam poets will perform live on our rooftop terrace. Will you listen along? Their slam poetry is based on the artworks from our exhibitions. This event is organised in collaboration with Kibi’s Academy and ZuiderZinnen. ZuiderZinnen is a literary festival featuring performances and interventions throughout the city, including at M HKA.
Practical Information
DAKkan on the M HKA rooftop is free and freely accessible via the staircase entrance. Would you like to visit the museum or attend the ZuiderZinnen activities? That’s possible, but only with a valid museum ticket or a ZuiderZinnen wristband. On 22 September, you can visit the museum at a special reduced rate (8 euros). A museum ticket grants access to a ZuiderZinnen wristband and vice versa.
