Film at The Cinema
1 Sep 2024 - 31 Aug 2025

The Cinema was born out of the collaboration between the M HKA and De Studio, between a contemporary art museum with a film function (the former Cinema Zuid) and a dynamic multidisciplinary cultural house in the heart of the city.
Welcome to De Cinema, the premier destination in Antwerp where film is celebrated in all its beauty and diversity. As the cinematic branch of the Museum of Contemporary Art (M HKA) and housed in the vibrant De Studio, De Cinema is a dynamic and inclusive meeting place for cinephiles, emerging filmmakers, and diverse audiences.
With an extensive film archive, two screening rooms, and state-of-the-art projection equipment—both analog (35mm) and digital (4K)—we present a carefully curated mix of timeless classics, groundbreaking new films, and hidden gems from film history across the globe. From old voices to new perspectives, and from activist cinema to experimental art films, we embrace the full spectrum of film culture.
Our mission is clear: to celebrate cinema in all its forms and colors. Often in collaboration with various partners, De Cinema provides a platform for (new) filmmakers and a home for quality film and artistic freedom, offering a curated program as diverse as the city we are part of. Our goal is not only to screen films but also to connect, engage, and foster dialogue between people, cultures, and generations.
With a renewed identity, De Cinema continues to be a unique space for a rich and varied cinematic experience, accompanied by film lectures, talks and panel discussions, live film concerts, yoga sessions, and even parties—there’s always something new to discover at De Cinema.
