Accessibility
M HKA is an open house. In terms of accessibility, we strive to offer an interesting programme in adapted facilities. We welcome everyone!
Smooth lift ride from one floor to another.
The M HKA has 2 lifts available for visitors with buggies, people in wheelchairs, or for those who just don’t feel like taking the stairs. With the small lift at the reception desk, visitors can easily access every floor, except the archive presentation room. The large lift (ask for it at the front desk) takes visitors to the ground level, 2nd, 4th and 6th floors.
Lift dimensions:
- small lift (L x W x H): 141.5 x 104.5 x 219.7 cm, door opening: 79.7 cm
- large lift (L x W x H): 272.2 x 196.2 x 219.8 cm, door opening: 99.8 cm
Toilets and changing tables
On the ground floor, there are toilets for men and women, for artists and for wheelchair users. Both the ladies’ and men’s toilets are equipped with a changing table for toddlers.
On the fourth floor there are several toilets for men and women, all of which are equipped with a changing table.
Assistive devices
Do you have trouble walking? Do you get tired quickly? Too many stimuli or need help with fine motor skills? At the front desk, you can borrow assistive devices that will improve your experience as a visitor. We can provide:
– wheelchairs
– walking chairs
– noise-cancelling headphones for children
– noise-cancelling earplugs for adults
– adapted craft materials for pre-schoolers and visitors with disabilities
Do you have specific needs or want to use our assistive devices? Please do not hesitate to let us know by phone (+32 (0)3 260 99 99) or via info@muhka.be.
Autism-friendly M HKA
Together with Tourism for Autism, we can help prepare your visit to the M HKA. Using a visual itinerary, visitors can find their way from their home to the museum, learn about our museum rules or prepare for ‘specials’ in our exhibition halls.
Lockers
Lockers are provided for storing backpacks and coats. Storage of large backpacks or objects is mandatory. The lockers can be locked with a 1-euro coin or with a token that can be obtained at the counter.
For water and milk
From Tuesday to Sunday, you can drop by at the M HKAFE for a drink or small bite to eat. On closing days, we provide free water and there is a microwave for warming baby bottles. On these days, visitors are allowed to bring their own lunch. Please be sure to leave your table clean!
For more information, feel free to visit the front desk at any time.
